8月6日 Bourne To Be One
With "The Simpsons Movie" and the universally praised "Bourne Ultimatum" opening in the last two weeks, viewer expectations have been incredibly high. And it looks like most people are happy with what they've seen. I think.
Still, it's better to keep your expectations low. Remember the whole "Phantom Menace" situation in 1999? What's worse was watching an advance screening and then having to break it gently to friends who'd literally been waiting their whole life for the movie. And then watching them spin into a strange denial that only happens when you're willing to stand in line for a movie for two weeks. OK, now I'm depressing myself.
Anyway, the "Bourne" movies are obviously not the cultural milestone that "Star Wars" was but "The Simpsons Movie" almost is. So on a happy note, there's no Jar Jar in "The Simpsons." I went to Jar Jar? That's enough of that.
And here's the top five movies over the weekend:
1. "The Bourne Ultimatum"-- $70.2M 2. "The Simpsons Movie"-- $25.6M
3. "Underdog"-- $12M
4. "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry"-- $10.5M
5. "Hairspray"-- $9.3M
