'Knocked Up' Big Time
In case you haven't noticed, I find box office talk incredibly boooooring. When you're dealing with the success of "Spider-Man 3," "Shrek" or "Pirates," who really cares? They're all gonna make tons of money, they're all gonna be number one their opening weekend, they're all gonna do fine overseas. When people start rattling off numbers my eyes glaze over and I go into a fugue state.
The exception is when something I like scores big or a movie surprises. Like if a Michael Haneke picture was number one for four weeks in a row (which is obviously impossible but amusing to think about). With that, I'm happy to report that "Knocked Up" killed at the box office and even better, the movie will have legs.
Here's the weekend numbers. And fast, before I dissociate.
1. "Pirates: At World's End"--$43.2
2. "Knocked Up"--$29.3
3. "Shrek the Third"--$26.7
4. "Mr. Brooks"--$10.0
5. "Spider-Man 3"--$7.5
